Just when you think that life couldn't get more exciting, then the TALKING CATS OCCUR.

That's what kicks off the *incredible* magical adventure known as Sailor Moon. Keep in mind, that talking cats can bring even *you* adventure by handing you magical brooches that are capable of transforming you from a bumbling, klutzy fourteen year old girl - into a beautiful, Japanese-style school-uniform bumbling, klutzy fourteen year old girl.

Keep in mind that this only works for girls. The GUYS have to wear masks and save the girls from the evil they have been chosen to fight.
That's really how it starts. I kid you not. You thought I was kidding about the cats and the crybaby 14 year old girls. As it turns out, Serena - the 14 year old klutz - saves a cat from some abusive boys, and then the cat later shows up later because the cat needs this particular girl, Serena, to find the Imperium Silver Crystal. As it turns out, there was this "Moon Kingdom" that existed a thousand years ago, and - in accordance with all series in this genre - there was also a "Dark Kingdom" that wanted to take over the Moon Kingdom. This series, already dealing in sophomoric romance, shows that Princess Serenity was able to repel the invasion, but at the cost of her own life, and she winds up sending her court, her guards and the Silver Crystal to Earth's future. Because that's just what doomed civilizations *DO*.
They send their stuff and their people to Earth, because that's just where "everyone" goes.
"Oh, hey, yeah, we're the last of our kind, and we're being hunted by an entire universe. Let's go to Earth!"
"But my liege, what is this Earth place that you speak of?"
"I don't know myself. But that's just where everyone goes in an emergency. Let the humans take care of our problems!"
"But my liege, what is a human?"
"I don't know. But they sound like some race we can dump our problems on without too much of an issue! And they'll make money by selling the rights to the movie!"
So as you can probably guess by now, Serena is a reincarnation of of Princess Serenity (

No!), and the rest of the "Sailor Scouts" are the reincarnations of the Moon Kingdom Guardians, and Tuxedo Mask - who's alter ego is Damien - happens to be the reincarnation of: say it with me now - Prince Damien. Awwwww.
What really makes my brain hurt are the words needed to activate the magic brooch's powers, "Moon Prism Power-Make Up!" Oh the pain.
Now, as you can tell, there's more sophomoric romance happening here than I care to relate. Especially when the past is revealed, and everyone realizes that they're re-meat-ified versions of what are supposed to be an alien race. There is much romance, and the Princess and Prince are married. But then the season has to come to an end, and finally the Sailor group gets a hold of the Imperium Silver Crystal, and totally vaporizes the Dark Kingdom with it. Now, in the original series, that means that they die too. But in the DIC translation, they just lose their memories.
That's all of season one, and that's all I really feel like tolerating at this point in time. Alcohol can only take me so far into something I'm not crazy about. Now, as a series geared toward pre-adolescent girls, this series is just *FINE*. It's when I start hearing about adult men enjoying - no, RAVING - about it, that's when I want retreat further into my mind until these people go away. Or until I'm in an unknown city with no pants and half a teddy bear.
